Since skin is considered one of the largest organs of the human body, it needs some extra care in order to remain glowing and free of blemishes or dryness. Many people choose to use moisturizers for their skin, but over time, chemically-laden ingredients can have the opposite effect—causing itchy, dry irritated skin. The best moisturizing oils for your skin are ones that are sourced directly from nature, and never manufactured in a lab.
Best Moisturizing Oils
Here are six of the best oils to moisturize the body. They’re full of natural compounds that will keep your skin smooth and young looking.
1) Argan Oil
Argan oil is sourced from the kernels of the fruit of the argan tree. These trees are commonly grown in Morocco, and people have been utilizing the benefits of this oil for centuries. This oil contains vitamin E, antioxidants, and the omega-3 fatty acids that are essential for skin health. This oil not only soothes skin, but can heal the skin membrane, and reduce inflammation.
2) Apricot Kernel Oil
This is a lighter oil that may benefit people with oilier skin who want a fast morning routine. It absorbs more quickly into the skin. It also contains vitamins A, C, and E, along with antioxidants that can protect the skin from the sun, and aid in healing sunburns.
3) Rosehip Seed Oil
Rosehip seed oil is one of the lesser known oils but is still filled with vitamin A and C. It’s cold-pressed from rose petals and it can hydrate and soften the skin. Rosehip oil will also encourage the production of collagen, which is essential for maintaining a youthful appearance. This oil is also non-greasy, and won’t leave a film on your face. It’s also suitable for people with oily skin and works well as a base for makeup.
4) Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet Almond Oil. Sweet almond oil is also a cold-pressed oil sourced from the prunis dulis tree, different than that of the bitter almond tree. It’s lightweight and has soothing anti-inflammatory properties. It’s rich in fatty acids so it will quickly absorb into the skin. It will help to slough off dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, as well as repairing damaged cells. You can also use sweet almond oil as a makeup remover for your evening skin care regimen. Simply pour a few drops onto a cotton ball and gently move it around your eyes, lips, and face.
5) Avocado Oil
Avocado Oil. Avocados are healthy for both inside and outside the body. This tropical fruit is full of vitamin E, but can also be used on the skin. It’s suitable for comforting sunburn, and is perfect for using on the soles of the feet where skin can become dry and rough.
6) Hemp Oil
Hemp oil is derived from the seeds of the hemp plant and it is known to have many health benefits. Although the oil is produced from the Cannabis plant, it contains little to no TCH (the active ingredient in marijuana). Hemp oil is a good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are called essential fats because they are needed to maintain healthy cells, nerves and brain function. These fatty acids are mostly absorbed from food but can also be absorbed when applied to the skin (applied topically).
