To start the new quarter of Merkaela’s seasonal subscriptions, we decided to change how subscribers can access the companion playlists. We decided to let the playlist live in one place and in the future we will update the music as soon as a new subscription box becomes available.
Now that we got the business out of the way, let’s talk about the music that inspired us this season.
The theme of the current box is to flourish. To enjoy the time of renewal. To participate in the inspiring soft winds of spring. The playlist opens with James Vincent McMorrow beautiful cover of the 80’s hit “Higher Love”. We’re immediately connected with the singer’s voice and energy. The cover has the perfect tone and message. A start of a playlist I have always dreamed of.
I wanted to include more eclectic, ethnic sounds this time around and the track Eghass Malan by Les Filles de Illighadad transforms our imagination yet again. We can picture a warm day, connecting with nature and enjoying all the bounties our planet affords us. Introducing our listeners to other international artists help us achieve that goal as well as expand their horizons.
I included cuts by Toquihno, Maysa, Amadou, Marcos Valle and Richard Bona. All superstars of the international music scene, but maybe not as well known to our listeners just yet. Nothing brings me more pleasure than connecting people with beautiful music they have not experienced yet. Matanga by Richard Bona and Mandeken Cubano is one of the most emotive and beautiful songs I have ever heard.
To take us to the modern times, yet still keeping it emotional I included new tracks by Cut Copy, Syd, Moon Boots and Real Estate. Songs that are easy to grasp, and filled with meaning and beauty. All sounds that make me think of flourish. Sounds of renewal. The tune of Spring.
Don’t forget to subscribe to our seasonal boxes and our accompanying playlists.
Peace and love!
